Native
18x36 in oil on canvas 2021
Native is the beginning of my exploration into the fashions of my native roots; specifically, the Aso Oke hat commonly worn by the Yoruba people. In this piece I wanted to play with color and vibrancy; elements that are significant in west African textile making.

Ku am mbég
15x15 in oil on canvas 2023
This painting explores western concepts of beauty by reinterpreting Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. I used old resonance techniques like chiaroscuro in creating this painting. The research and intention used to develop this piece begs the question of who gets to be represented in these icon forms of portraiture and role they play is art history.
After The Beheading

This piece plays on the classic painting of Judith Beheading Holofernes, showcasing a contemporary Judith and the scene after she has committed the beheading; symbolizing the beheading of white idealization.
